WHAT YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ACTUALLY TELLING YOU
BY THE B3NJI'S TEAM · JUNE 2026
The check engine light is the most misunderstood light on your dash. Here's the honest version: it's usually a sensor, not a disaster. The important part is knowing which kind of light you have.
Solid light: soon, not sirens
A steady check engine light means the computer caught something out of range. The car is usually fine to drive while you sort it out. Don't ignore it for months, because small problems get expensive, and a lit light is also an automatic emissions fail. But you don't need to pull over.
Flashing light: stop driving
A flashing light means the engine is misfiring badly enough to damage the catalytic converter, which is one of the most expensive parts on the car to replace. Pull over when it's safe, and call us. This is the one version of the light that can't wait.
What it usually turns out to be
The codes we see most: oxygen sensors, loose or worn gas caps, EVAP leaks, ignition coils, and catalytic converter efficiency. Some of those are twenty-minute fixes. The scan tells us where to look, not always the exact part, which is why we test before we replace anything.
What to do next
Come by. We'll scan it for free, tell you what the code means in plain language, and tell you honestly whether it's urgent or can wait. If it needs a repair and we do it, the diagnostic fee is waived. No pressure either way.
THE SHORT VERSION
Solid light: get it scanned soon, but you can drive normally. Flashing light: stop driving and call us. Either way, we'll scan it for free and tell you if it's urgent or can wait.
