WHAT'S IT DOING?

You don't need to know the part. Find what your car is doing and we'll tell you what it usually means.

"THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON"

Usually a sensor, not a disaster. Steady light: get it scanned soon. Flashing light: stop driving and call us.

USUALLY: DIAGNOSTICS

"IT SQUEALS OR GRINDS WHEN I BRAKE"

Squealing means the pads are warning you early. Grinding means metal on metal, so come in soon.

USUALLY: BRAKES

"IT SHAKES ON THE FREEWAY"

Most of the time it's wheel balance or alignment, one of the cheaper fixes on this page.

USUALLY: TIRES & ALIGNMENT

"THE AC IS BLOWING WARM"

Nine times out of ten it's a slow refrigerant leak. We find it and fix it, not just recharge it.

"IT WON'T START"

Usually the battery, sometimes the alternator or starter. We test all three before replacing anything.

"THERE'S A PUDDLE UNDER THE CAR"

Sweet smell is coolant, dark spots are oil. Either one is much cheaper to fix early than late.

Usually a worn ball joint, sway bar link, or strut. Not an emergency yet, but worth a look on the lift.

"THE GEARS SLIP OR SHIFT HARD"

Sometimes it's just low fluid. Caught early, a transmission problem doesn't have to mean a rebuild.
